A polar bear attacked a 32-year-old woman on Friday after she jumped into their enclosure at the Berlin Zoo during feeding time. The woman, identified only as Mandy K, suffered multiple bites before she was rescued.
To gain access to the enclosure, Mandy K climbed over a fence, maneuvered through a line of hedges, and scaled a wall. Her actions placed her directly in the path of the feeding bears. As she leapt into the enclosure, the bears were being fed, and she sustained injuries to her arms, legs, and back. Despite the efforts of six zookeepers to divert the four bears, one of the predators repeatedly bit her on the arms and legs. Eventually, the zookeepers managed to scare the bear away and rescue the woman.
Mandy K is now recovering in the hospital following surgery to repair her wounds. Further information revealed that she is a teacher who had been driven to despair by her failure to find a job. This tragic incident underscores the importance of respecting zoo boundaries and the dangers of interacting with wild animals.
