Spencer Wright’s Heartbreak: Tragic Loss of His Young Son, Levi Wright

Renowned rodeo cowboy Spencer Wright has been struck by a devastating tragedy with the loss of his young son, Levi Wright. The three-year-old passed away following a harrowing near-drowning incident that led to a traumatic brain injury.

The accident occurred when Levi, while playing near the family’s home, accidentally drove his toy tractor into a nearby river. Local police found him unconscious about a mile downstream and he was immediately rushed to a hospital in Salt Lake City.

Initially, doctors delivered a grim prognosis, declaring Levi brain dead with little hope for recovery. However, in a miraculous turn of events, Levi began to show signs of improvement. His mother, Kallie Wright, shared a hopeful update on Facebook: “LEVI AWAKENED! We don’t know much, but the doctor told me it was okay to be excited about that, and I AM! My child is really tough!”

Unfortunately, Levi’s condition took a downturn when subsequent MRI results indicated severe brain damage. “We are broken, but it’s just pictures that show a certain way of life,” Kallie wrote. “What Levi does over the next few days will really tell us everything.”

As Levi continued to fight for his life, the family and friends rallied, flooding social media with requests for prayers and support. However, despite the initial signs of improvement, Levi’s condition did not improve as hoped.

On June 2, Kallie shared the heart-wrenching update that no parent ever wants to deliver. “After many sleepless nights, a lot of research, many talks with the best neurologists in the world, and millions of prayers, we are here facing our biggest fear,” she wrote. “Levi only showed us enough to buy us some time. He did those things to show us that he wanted to stay here, even though the odds were against him. Now we know that he just wanted to give us time to be okay with letting him go.”

After extensive tests, scans, and consultations, the Wright family made the agonizing decision to turn off Levi’s life support. The following day, family friend Mindy Sue Clark shared on Facebook that Levi had passed away. “The last two weeks have been so hard that I can’t even begin to describe them,” she wrote. “The phone rang the night of his accident, and I got the message that he had to leave last night. That’s why I don’t want to think about the bad or sad things. It hurts like someone tore my heart out and squished it right in front of me. What I want to talk about is all the miracles we saw during those 12 days.”

Clark described Levi as “the most wonderful three-year-old ever,” a child so perfect that “we couldn’t keep him.” She recounted the strength and unity he inspired in his short life. “In the last 12 days, this baby boy did a lot. He got a lot of people to get together. A child brought light into a very dark world. His parents could not have asked for a better child.”

The Wright family’s grief is unimaginable, and during this profoundly difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with them. Levi’s brief but impactful life serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the strength of family and community.
