A Case of Mistaken Identity Leads to a Shiner

Everyone has those days where nothing seems to go right, but for Bob, an undertaker, one particular day took a turn for the absurd. He arrived home looking worse for wear, sporting a rather impressive black eye that immediately caught his wife’s concerned attention. When she asked about the source of his injury, Bob launched into a tale of professional woe that explained the shiner in the most unexpected way.

Bob began by describing a difficult call he had received. A guest at a local hotel had passed away peacefully in his sleep. However, the situation was complicated by a rather unusual and delicate physical circumstance the deceased was experiencing. The hotel manager informed Bob that their staff had been unable to place the man into a standard body bag due to this pronounced and rigid condition.

Undeterred, Bob proceeded to the room to assess the situation personally. He found the scene just as described: a large, unclothed man on the bed, presenting a significant logistical challenge for respectful removal. Thinking practically, Bob decided on a direct, hands-on approach to solve the problem. He took hold of the erection firmly, intending to carefully bend it downward to allow for the body to be bagged and transported.

His wife listened, sympathizing with the awkwardness of such a grim task. She agreed it sounded like a terrible situation, but she circled back to her original question: how, exactly, did that sequence of events result in a black eye? Bob’s answer was a masterclass in comic timing. With simple, devastating clarity, he confessed his critical error. In his haste or confusion, he had entered the wrong hotel room entirely. His “professional assessment” and subsequent hands-on solution were directed at a man who was very much alive, awake, and unsurprisingly defensive. The punch, it seems, was a swift and justified reaction to the mortician’s startling miscalculation.
