Jo Ann Ussery’s Unique Living Solution

In 1993, Jo Ann Ussery found herself facing a significant challenge. After her house in Mississippi was destroyed, she needed to find a new home for herself and her children. With limited finances, affording a suitable trailer seemed out of reach. However, a unique suggestion from her brother-in-law sparked an unconventional idea: why not live in a decommissioned Boeing 727 airplane?

Transforming the Boeing 727

Determined to make this unusual concept a reality, Ussery purchased the entire plane for just $2,000, including shipping costs. She then spent approximately $30,000 to refurbish the aircraft, transforming it into her dream home. The 138-foot long airplane became a fully functional living space, featuring three bedrooms, a living area, a kitchen, a laundry room, and a luxurious master bathroom located in the cockpit.

Ussery’s creativity and resourcefulness were evident in every aspect of the transformation. The once-flying aircraft was now a cozy and comfortable home, showcasing her ability to think outside the box and turn an old plane into a unique living solution.

A Lasting Legacy

After enjoying her distinctive home for several years, Ussery decided to share its wonder with the world by turning it into a museum. Unfortunately, during transportation, the plane was severely damaged. Despite this setback, Jo Ann Ussery’s remarkable transformation of the Boeing 727 remains a testament to creativity, resilience, and the power of innovative thinking.
