Woman Left With Huge Regrets After Paying $161,000 To Extend Her Legs By 5.5 Inches

A woman who spent $161,000 to increase her height by 5.5 inches has revealed she’s now living with serious regrets.

Theresia Fischer, an influencer and former contestant on German Celebrity Big Brother, was 5ft 6 when she decided to undergo the dramatic procedure at 24 years old.

At first, the operation appeared to be a positive turning point in her life, but years later, Fischer has admitted the experience has left her with lasting concerns.

Inside the extreme height procedure

Leg-lengthening surgery is a highly complicated operation that slowly stretches the bones in the legs over time.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, the procedure is often used to correct uneven leg length or conditions that affect bone growth and development.

Because of how invasive the surgery is, medical professionals warn it can come with significant risks and long-term complications.

Professor Hamish Simpson, of the British Orthopaedic Association, told the BBC: “The techniques and technology have improved substantially over the past couple of decades, making it a safer procedure.

“However, as well as growing more bone – more muscle, nerve, blood vessels, and skin have to be grown and the procedure remains an extremely complex process, with a high complication rate.”

Fischer underwent the intense operation at just 24 years old. The process involved surgeons inserting adjustable telescopic rods into her lower legs, which gradually extended over time.

Before the surgery, the influencer stood at 5ft 6. Following the procedure, she now measures over 6ft tall.

In an interview with German radio station MDR Jump in August 2023, Fischer, then 31, claimed her former boyfriend pressured her into having the operation.

She claimed (per Daily Star): “‘Theresia, you know I like big ladies. So I would really like this. You could get up to 14 centimeters more.’”

“[He would say] ‘You can’t do anything without me. You need me.’ And if you are told that 20, 30, 60, 70 times – then you believe that you are nothing without him.”

Despite going through with the transformation, Fischer explained she had always felt comfortable in her own body before the surgery.

The influencer admitted she now struggles with feelings of embarrassment over how drastically she altered her appearance.

“I am ashamed because I consented to an operation that shouldn’t have had,” Fischer continued.

“I’ve never dealt with that before because I’ve always been happy with my body.”

Life after the surgery

The procedure has continued to impact Fischer’s day-to-day life years later.

She explained that appearing on reality TV became especially difficult, particularly during scenes where she needed to move quickly or run across set.

“When I had to run a little or be faster – it’s just strange to run with metal in your legs,” Fischer said.

Fischer has also reportedly been told that the fibula bone in one of her legs did not grow properly, according to the Mirror.

Now, the influencer says she is eagerly waiting for the day her metal support rods can finally be removed.

Why she regrets the operation

The emotional impact of the surgery hasn’t been Fischer’s only struggle. She has also developed periosteum inflammation, a condition where the connective tissue surrounding the bones becomes inflamed.

The painful complication ultimately forced the influencer to leave the German version of Battle of the Reality Stars.

As she continues dealing with the physical effects of the surgery, Fischer has made it clear the operation came at a far greater cost than she ever expected.
