Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA and a hugely influential figure within Donald Trump’s MAGA movement, was assassinated in September 2025 during an appearance at Utah Valley University.

His death immediately sparked fierce reactions across the political spectrum.

Supporters mourned him as one of the most important conservative voices of his generation, while critics pointed once again to the inflammatory rhetoric and controversial claims that had defined much of his career.

In the months since his death, conversations surrounding Kirk’s legacy have only intensified online.

Now, a viral post from a man claiming to have attended high school with Kirk has resurfaced, and it paints a very different picture of what the political commentator was allegedly like as a teenager.

Charlie Kirk became one of the most divisive political figures in America

Born in Arlington Heights, Illinois, in 1993, Kirk developed an interest in conservative politics at a young age.

He later founded Turning Point USA in 2012 alongside conservative businessman Bill Montgomery after briefly attending college for a single semester.

The organization quickly exploded in popularity among young conservatives, particularly during Donald Trump’s rise to power.

Kirk became famous for his campus speaking tours, viral debates, and highly political podcast, The Charlie Kirk Show.

But alongside his enormous following came equally intense criticism.

Throughout his career, Kirk faced backlash over comments involving abortion rights, LGBTQ+ issues, diversity initiatives, race, and the 2020 election.

He was also accused repeatedly of spreading misinformation surrounding Covid-19 and election fraud claims tied to Donald Trump.

Critics often described his debate style as combative and inflammatory, while supporters praised him for aggressively challenging progressive viewpoints on college campuses across America.

By the time of his death in 2025, Kirk had become one of the most recognizable faces in modern conservative politics.

Charlie Kirk was assassinated during a TPUSA event

Kirk was killed while appearing at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University as part of what he had branded ‘The American Comeback Tour.’

Witnesses at the event described scenes of panic after gunshots rang out during the appearance.

Video footage from the scene later spread rapidly across social media as news of the assassination shocked the country.

Authorities later arrested 22-year-old Tyler James Robinson in connection with the shooting.

According to reports, Robinson was charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, two counts of witness tampering, and commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child.

Following Kirk’s death, leadership responsibilities within Turning Point USA were taken over by his widow, Erika Kirk, with whom he shared two children.

Former classmate speaks out after Charlie Kirk’s death

As tributes, political debates, and reactions flooded social media following Charlie Kirk’s assassination, one viral post quickly stood apart from the rest.

A Threads user named Nick Caputo claimed he had attended high school with the Turning Point USA founder years before he became one of the most recognizable figures in conservative politics.

The post immediately sparked intense discussion online, with many people wondering what Caputo was about to reveal about Kirk’s behavior as a teenager.

At the same time, others questioned whether resurfacing personal stories from high school was appropriate so soon after Kirk’s death.

Supporters of Kirk accused critics of trying to damage his reputation while emotions surrounding the shooting were still raw. Others argued that public figures, especially controversial ones, should still be open to scrutiny even after their deaths.

As the post spread across Threads and X, users debated whether Caputo’s allegations reflected the same combative personality many people believed Kirk displayed publicly throughout his political career.

Social media quickly became divided

The viral post triggered fierce reactions almost immediately.

Some people doubted the claims entirely, arguing there was no way to independently verify accusations from decades earlier.

Others defended Caputo’s decision to speak publicly, saying personal experiences with powerful public figures should not automatically be ignored simply because the person has died.

Meanwhile, some users pointed to Kirk’s reputation for confrontational debates and aggressive rhetoric, claiming the allegations did not surprise them.

Others pushed back, insisting it was unfair to reduce someone’s entire life to unverified stories from high school.

The debate soon became another example of how deeply polarizing Charlie Kirk remained, even after his assassination.

What his former classmate alleged about him

While Caputo’s post initially avoided specifics, he eventually made a far more serious claim about what Kirk was allegedly like during their school years together.

According to the former classmate, Kirk repeatedly targeted him with bullying throughout high school, to the point where it severely impacted his mental health.

“Charlie Kirk bullied me relentlessly in high school to the point that I had a s**cide attempt before the age of 18,” Caputo wrote.

He went on to explain that while he felt sympathy for Kirk’s wife and children following the shooting, he could not personally mourn Kirk himself.

“I also lost my father very young, something Charlie knew as he was giving me hell,” he added.

“The only reason I want to go back in time to stop this from happening is because of his kids, so they don’t experience the same thing.”

Caputo ended the post with the line: “But I will never, under any circumstances, feel sympathy for this terrible person.”
